Holuhraun lava field was formed in the latest volcanic eruption in Iceland in the winter of 2014. The new Holuhraun lava field is the largest basaltic lava flow since Laki in 1783-84 or 85 square kilometers or 32 square miles which makes it bigger than the island of Manhattan. The lava field is still warm and there are some pots of water that emerge from the lava field have formed natural hot tubs in the midsts of the new lava field which is quite unique and spectacular to see. It is now safe to land in the area and even walk on the new lava which is still steaming hot just under the surface.
