We drove to Fljotshlid and crossed Markarfljot river which can be very tricky and dangerous unless you know the river very well.  We then arrived in Husadalur in Thorsmork and headed to Gigjokull glacier where the melted glacier flooded down from the Eyjafjallajokull glacier volcano.

The Gigjokull glacier lagoon has changed dramatically since the eruption. The glacier is black from ash and the lagoon has mostly disappeared and been replaced by what you see on the picture.
