It was a beautiful morning and we had an early start at 4:00 in the morning, heading from Reykjavik to meet up with our convoy of seven super jeeps. We headed into Myrdalsjokull glacier at Solheimajokull glacier which is a part of the first one. From there we headed North on Myrdalsjokull glacier and then West to the location of the eruption on Fimmvorduhals which is located between the two glaciers, Myrdalsjokull and Eyjafjallajokull. The weather was perfect, the sun was shining and very low temperature (-16° C) which kept the snow crisp and firm. The tour went very well and we arrived back in Reykjavik at 18:00 (6pm), tired but happy.

At the root of Solheimajokull glacier we prepared by deflating the tires down to 3-4 lbs. This is essential to maximize the float on the snow. Click on the image to see the full size.

Getting really close to the eruption. Notice how small the super jeeps on the hill to the right of the eruption seem in comparison. Click on the image to see the full size.

... and the main attraction of the day: the breathtaking eruption itself. Notice how small the person in the bottom right corner seems. Click on the image to see the full size.
